TripToad is a planning workspace for the middle of a trip plan: when there are reservations, ideas, places, costs, documents, and people involved, but everything still needs to be checked before it becomes the final itinerary.

Confirmation imports, provider facts, and travel details are useful because they are inspectable. The product direction is review-first, not autopilot.
Receipt scanning & your data
Receipt scanning is a live, opt-in feature. You can always enter receipt line items by hand, and nothing is ever scanned automatically. Here is exactly what happens when you choose to scan one:
When you add a receipt by taking or choosing a photo, or tap Scan on an expense, the supported receipt file is sent to AWS Textract, which reads it and returns suggested line items, amounts, totals and the printed date. JPG, PNG, and single-page PDF receipts up to 10 MB can be scanned. Nothing is scanned automatically, and a receipt is not scanned a second time unless you ask.
Scanning reads English receipts most reliably. Receipts in other languages are read on a best-effort basis: TripToad shows what it could read, says what it could not, and asks rather than guessing a currency, a date or whether tax is already in the prices.
Suggestions are drafts you review. They never change anyone’s balance until you confirm the expense. You can edit or dismiss any suggestion, and manual entry is always available.
We store the resulting suggestions and a few non-sensitive counters (scan time, line count, confidence). While you are still reviewing a receipt we also keep the printed text of its lines, amounts and date, with card and account numbers removed, so you can finish it without scanning again. That review text is cleared when you save the expense or discard the receipt, and an unfinished receipt expires after 24 hours. We do not store the raw provider response. Our AWS account is configured with the AI-services opt-out, so receipt files are not retained by AWS to improve their models. If you prefer not to use it, just enter receipt lines by hand.
